About Us

It all started from a get-together of a group of canine-loving friends who enjoys the great outdoors.  There was a consensus that man’s best friends have been getting a lot of negative publicity of late. It was felt that much more could be done to help the general public as well as the community of dog owners understand the true reasons for having a dog and the responsibilities which come with it.  Sadly, a lot of people in this country do not see the utility of dogs beyond that of guarding their properties. Hence, most of these dogs are being tied up or caged 24/7. We hope to change all that through Dog Scouts of Malaysia (DSM)! Education plays an important role in order to change that mindset. At DSM, our ambition is therefore to educate through FUN because we feel that fun leads to many great things.  The mission statement of Dog Scouts of Malaysia (DSM) is as follows:-

*    Towards responsible dog ownership

*   Contribution to the community

*   Towards improved welfare of dogs
In pursuit of our mission, we aim to educate people on how to be a responsible dog owner, to create awareness and better appreciation of dogs amongst the general public. It is hoped that through our endeavours we will ultimately bring about an improvement in the welfare of the canine species.

DSM will be conducting camps, seminars and outings and members can attend, learn and participate to attain merit badges. DSM will also hold instructor’s retreats where leadership training and polishing of skill will take place.

[DSM is modelled after the scouting movement, except that it is canine-centric!!!].

For a start, a member is required to obtain the TENDERPAW badge, which is a pre-requisite to all the other more exciting activities of DSM. The badge is awarded when a member passes a set of test that requires him to demonstrate his ability in achieving basic control and mannerism over his dog.

After attaining the TENDERPAW badge, members can move on to earn merit badges in specified activities of DSM through which they can demonstrate their efforts towards a cause, training achievements or performing a particular skill with their canine partner.
